Athens, Georgia Diabetic Services

Diabetes is a common metabolic disease which affects 23.6 million Americans or 7.8% of the population. If the condition is left undiagnosed or not treated properly it can result in permanent long term complications. There are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is insulin dependent and usually starts at a younger age. Type 2 may begin at any age and can be managed with diet, oral medications, or a combination of oral medication and insulin. In addition to the 23.6 million diabetics, there is also a new class of potential diabetics called pre-diabetics. Pre-diabetics have no symptoms but have higher then normal glucose levels ranging between 100 and 125. It is estimated that there are 57 million pre-diabetics in America.
